HOW WE BUILT IT

A Structured, Section-First Build Process on Shopify

Oh Pretty needed work across premium storefront design, collection navigation, product discovery, product-page conversion, and merchant tooling. We treated each area as its own workstream, agreed the design and content model up front, and shipped in section-sized increments so the team could review as we went.

Discovery

A working session with the Oh Pretty team to understand the brand positioning, the dress range, the occasion-based selling model, and how the team wanted to manage content going forward.

Requirement Analysis

Broke the brief into workstreams: premium theme, collection merchandising, mega-filter navigation, product-page conversion,

recommendations, performance, reusable sections, and responsive layouts.

Design Direction

Defined the visual system for a premium women’s fashion brand: editorial layouts, elegant typography, lifestyle-forward imagery, and a clean, distraction-free path to purchase.

Theme Development

Built the custom Shopify theme in Liquid: reusable sections for banners, promotional content, collections, featured products, and editorial blocks that surface across the storefront.

Discovery & Filters

Built the collection merchandising and the advanced mega-filter panel: category, style, colour, size, price, and dress length, with sort controls that refine large collections without a page reload.

Product-Page Build

Built conversion-focused product pages: clear sizing and colour selection, add-to-cart flow, inline reviews, and a “You Might Also Like” recommendations block that surfaces complementary pieces.

Performance Pass

Optimised image delivery, added lazy loading, trimmed unnecessary scripts, and tuned the theme architecture to improve Core Web Vitals and keep image-heavy pages fast on mobile.

QA & Launch

Cross-browser and cross-device QA across every custom section, the filter panel, product pages, and checkout before deploying the storefront to the live store.

WHAT WE BUILT

Eight Building Blocks of a Premium Fashion Storefront

The Oh Pretty storefront ships as a set of connected surfaces: a premium editorial theme, collection-based navigation, an advanced mega-filter panel, conversion-focused product pages, recommendations, a mobile-first build, and a reusable content layer the team runs on its own.

Premium Editorial Storefront & Responsive Layouts

A visually premium Shopify theme aligned with the Oh Pretty brand: large editorial banners, lifestyle photography, elegant typography, and responsive grids that hold up across mobile, tablet, and desktop. Every scroll signals the brand before it sells the product.

Collection-Based Shopping & New Arrivals

Dresses and categories are organised into clear, occasion-led collections with a New Arrivals surface front and centre. Shoppers who are not sure where to start see a curated route in instead of a flat product wall, which is the core of the storefront’s discovery experience.

Advanced Mega-Filters & Sort

A full filter panel lets shoppers narrow the catalogue by category, style, colour, size, price, and dress length, with sort controls layered on top. Hundreds of products collapse to the right few in a couple of clicks, without leaving the collection page.

Conversion-Focused Product Pages

Clean product pages built to convert: high-quality imagery, clear colour and size selection, an obvious add-to-cart, inline reviews and ratings, and collapsible detail, sizing, and shipping sections. Everything the shopper needs to decide sits above the fold.

Product Recommendations

A “You Might Also Like” block surfaces complementary pieces on every product page, keeping shoppers moving through the catalogue and lifting basket size. Recommendations are merchandised to match the brand’s editorial feel rather than a generic upsell grid.

Mobile-First Shopping Experience

The storefront is built mobile-first: touch-friendly navigation, optimised image loading, responsive product grids, and a checkout flow tuned for the phone. Most fashion traffic arrives on mobile, so the smallest screen was designed before the largest.

Reusable Merchant Sections & Shopify CMS

Reusable Shopify sections give the Oh Pretty team direct control over homepage banners, seasonal collections, promotional content, and featured products from the Shopify admin. Campaigns and merchandising updates launch in minutes, without a developer in the loop.

Performance & Conversion-Ready Checkout

Optimised image delivery, lazy loading, and a lean theme architecture keep image-heavy pages fast and improve Core Web Vitals. Trust-building messaging and a streamlined native Shopify checkout with Shop Pay close the journey cleanly from browse to purchase.

THE CHALLENGES WE SOLVED

Making a Premium Fashion Brand Fast and Easy to Shop on Shopify

This section is about the judgement calls, not the feature list. Shopify gives you commerce infrastructure; it does not decide the trade-offs a premium fashion brand has to get right. Five of those shaped the build:

Premium Feel Versus Page Weight

The imagery that makes a fashion store feel expensive is the same imagery that slows it down. The real question was where to spend the byte budget so the storefront still reads editorial without paying for it at load time.

Precision Without Clutter

A deep dress range only helps if a shopper can cut through it. The tension was making discovery powerful enough to matter and quiet enough to stay out of the way, so filtering guides rather than overwhelms.

Sequencing the Buying Decision

A beautiful product page still has to close. The work was ordering the page around how someone actually decides, size and fit, then proof, then cart, so the answer to every hesitation sits above the moment of doubt.

A Store the Team Can Move on Its Own

The storefront had to keep changing after we left. The call was which levers to expose in the admin so the team runs seasonal merchandising themselves, and nothing that marketing needs stays locked in code.

One Behaviour on Every Screen

A single purchase crosses phone, tablet, and desktop. The challenge was consistency: the same filter, section, and cart behaviour on the smallest screen, where most fashion traffic actually is, as on the largest.

WHAT WAS DELIVERED

A Premium Fashion Store the Team Can Run

This section maps the brief to the outcome: what Oh Pretty asked for, and what that actually means for the brand and the team now that the store is live.

VISION DELIVERED
Brand Experience “A modern, luxury-inspired Shopify storefront” A store that reads as premium from the first scroll and stays unmistakably Oh Pretty on every page.
Product Discovery “Improve product discovery with intuitive navigation and collection organisation” Shoppers reach the right dress in a click or two, by occasion or by precise filter, instead of scrolling a flat wall.
Customer Engagement “Enhance customer engagement through personalised shopping experiences” Every product page earns the next click, with fit detail, proof, and recommendations that keep shoppers inside the range.
Merchant Control “A scalable CMS that empowers the marketing team” The team launches campaigns and collections from the admin in minutes, with no developer in the loop.
Responsive Performance “Deliver fast-loading pages across all devices” Fast, consistent shopping on the phone first, where most fashion traffic lands, then everywhere else.
Purchase Journey “Optimise the purchasing journey to improve conversion rates” A short, trusted path from add-to-cart to a familiar Shop Pay checkout, built to hold onto the sale.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US

Transparent Build Process and Clean Delivery for Shopify Projects

If you are building or rebuilding a Shopify store and weighing agencies, here is what working with our team actually looks like.

A plan before a proposal.

We start with a working session to understand what your store needs to do, who it serves, and where the gaps are. For a brand store, that means understanding the brand identity, not just the feature list. You leave with a delivery plan, not a sales pitch.

Brand-first, not feature-first.

Every section of your homepage and product pages exists for a reason. We agree on the purpose of each section before we design it. The end product reflects your brand’s actual logic, not a template someone built for a different business.

Clean theme code from the start.

We write Shopify Liquid that any competent developer can read and maintain. No third-party app dependency for functionality that belongs in the theme. No workarounds that break on the next Shopify update.

Content the team owns.

We design every content-heavy section around the Shopify admin so your team can update product content, offers, promotions, and marketing copy without a developer. If you need to change a headline, you should not need us.

A milestone review at every stage.

You review the actual work at each stage: design direction, theme in staging, integrations live, final QA. You always know what has been built and what is left. No month-long silences followed by a reveal.

Quality that does not depend on one person.

Every change is tested before it reaches you. Every section is reviewed across browsers and devices, not just on one screen. Nothing ships because one developer said it looked fine on their machine.

You own what we build.

At handover you get the full theme: Shopify Liquid source files, all custom CSS and JavaScript, section definitions, and documentation. Your team can take it forward independently or keep us on; that is your choice.

A founder-friendly working rhythm.

You review every milestone. The brief you gave us, the thing that makes your store feel like your brand and not a template, is what we build to. You are not a ticket number.

TECHNICAL NOTES

The Architecture and Tooling Powering the Oh Pretty Storefront

Section & Block Architecture

Every surface is a standalone Liquid section with its own schema, so layout, order, and content are set from the admin. New page types compose from existing blocks rather than new code.

Tag-Driven Filtering

The mega-filter reads product tags and metafields and refines client-side, so results update without a full reload and merchandisers extend the taxonomy from the admin, not the codebase.

Product-Page Composition

Media, variant pickers, proof, and collapsible detail are assembled as blocks per template, keeping the decision path above the fold and letting product types diverge without forking the theme.

Recommendations Source

Cross-sell is powered by Shopify’s product-recommendations logic, rendered through a themed section so it stays on-brand instead of injecting a third-party widget.

Performance Budget

Responsive image sizes, lazy loading, deferred non-critical JavaScript, and minimal render-blocking assets hold the line on Core Web Vitals despite heavy imagery.

Admin Editability by Schema

Section settings are the contract with the marketing team: what is exposed in schema is what they can change, which is how seasonal updates ship without engineering.

Checkout Verification

Native checkout with Shop Pay, with cart and AJAX interactions regression-checked across devices so nothing between add-to-cart and payment breaks silently.
